Biri hosts cruise ship visitors amid storm conditions

By David Vera

Biri Island in Northern Samar welcomed the Coral Geographer Expeditions cruise ship on October 30, 2024, despite challenging weather from Typhoon Leon. After a three-day delay offshore, 43 passengers disembarked and were greeted by Mayor Amelita B. Delos Reyes and other local officials.

The visit included cultural presentations and local cuisine, providing a snapshot of Biri’s heritage. Cruise tourism is a growing sector for Biri, bringing economic benefits to the community. The reception during storm conditions highlights the community’s resilience and commitment to tourism, an essential part of the local economy.

The rise in cruise visits aligns with global trends in tourism, where travelers seek unique, lesser-known destinations. Biri’s dedication to hospitality reflects its efforts to support sustainable tourism while preserving its cultural and natural assets.
