Bicol police logs 21 dead, 9 injured due to ‘Kristine’

LEGAZPI CITY – The Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 (Bicol) on Thursday reported that 21 people have died and nine were injured due to the onlaught of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (Trami) in the region.

PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said the victims were reported in Naga City (8); Catanduanes (5); Albay (4); and Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbate, and Sorsogon (one each).

He said that based on the reports from police stations, the causes of deaths were attributed to drowning, landslides, accidents caused by slippery roofs, and being struck by fallen trees.

Dizon added that the Reactionary Standby Support Force, Quick Response Team, and Search and Rescue Teams are conducting rescue operations, deploying all available personnel to flooded areas, particularly in Albay, Camarines Sur, and Naga City.

PRO5 continues to provide assistance in relief operations to address the immediate needs of the affected communities.

Dizon said emergency responders are working diligently to assist affected residents and provide necessary support.

“The weather is still unfavorable to the entire Bicol. Let’s again reach out to the community by becoming their servants and protectors. Let’s go out to save lives and properties again,” he said. (PNA)
