BI allows frontline officers to extend holiday greetings to travelers

MANILA – Bureau of Immigration (BI) frontline officers are permitted to greet travelers with holiday messages during the Christmas season, emphasizing inclusivity and respect.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado reminded airport personnel to ensure greetings remain respectful, welcoming all travelers regardless of their faith or cultural background.

“Filipinos are globally recognized for their warmth and hospitality, especially during the holidays,” Viado said in a statement over the weekend.

“Greeting travelers is more than spreading joy. It reflects our identity as a people, showcasing the Filipino way of celebrating with respect and inclusivity.”

However, he maintained that government employees are prohibited from receiving gifts or tokens, urging travelers to instead show appreciation through smiles or greetings.

“Such gestures uplift our officers, especially during the holidays when they sacrifice time with their families to serve the public,” he added.

The BI anticipates a surge in airport traffic, with around 110,000 daily arrivals and departures during the holiday season.

Travelers are encouraged to arrive early and comply with immigration protocols to ensure smooth processing and a hassle-free experience.

The agency reiterated its commitment to providing efficient and friendly service throughout the festive period. (PNA)
