The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Pangasinan has reported that the number of fire cases in the past three weeks of the new year has reached 34 as of January 26, 2026.
According to Fire Senior Superintendent Marvin Carbonel, Provincial Fire Marshal, most of the recorded incidents were grassfires due to an extended period of dry weather, which causes dry grass and leaves, resulting in the quick spread of fire.
“The majority of these were minor fires and immediately brought under control, but there were also incidents involving homes, poultry farm, vehicles, and lawns”, FSsupt. Carbonel disclosed.
The BFP urged the public to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines, such as avoiding lighting fires in flammable areas, ensuring cigarette are extinguished properly after disposing, and regular checking of electrical wirings and appliances in the house.
“Everyone is advised to promptly report any fire incident in their vicinity to the BFP and to prioritize making a call over filming the event to enable the firefighters to respond more swiftly and prevent potential serious situation from escalating”, FSsupt. Carbonel added.
