Batangas officials skip congressional inquiry on fund misuse allegations

By Matthew Go

Mataasnakahoy Mayor Janet Ilagan and Vice Mayor Jay Manalo Ilagan were notably absent from a congressional inquiry held on December 18, addressing allegations of fund misuse and other irregularities in their municipality.

The inquiry was initiated following a resolution filed by members of the House Representatives Robert Raymond Estrella, Danilo Fernandez, Romeo Momo, Jose Arturo Garcia, and Roy Loyola, aiming to promote transparency and accountability in local governance.

The Commission on Audit has been instructed to conduct a special fraud audit as part of the investigation.

In response to the allegations, Mayor Ilagan issued a statement on the municipality’s official Facebook page, denying any wrongdoing and citing prior commitments as the reason for her absence at the hearing.

The congressional committee has announced plans to summon Mayor Ilagan and Vice Mayor Ilagan for a subsequent hearing to address the concerns raised.
