Bangued lifts hog import restrictions from ASF-free areas

By Michelle Ducut

Mayor Mila Valera of Bangued, Abra has lifted the ban on the entry of hogs and pork products from other municipalities in the province that have been declared free from the African swine fever (ASF).

The directive, issued on November 19, 2024, identified 40 specific areas in four municipalities where hogs and pork products can be sourced and sold in Bangued.

The decision to lift the ban aims to ensure a stable supply of pork products in the capital town, especially as the holiday season approaches. However, strict measures are in place to prevent the reintroduction of ASF.

Sellers are required to present identification, contact information, and a certification from the municipal agriculturist confirming the health status of the hogs. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in the denial of entry.

The move comes after several areas in Abra, including Pilar, Luba, and Dolores, were previously affected by ASF outbreaks.
