Banca Karera competition ushers in Binmaley’s Sigay Festival

BINMALEY—Sigay Festival in the town of Binmaley reeled off on January 28, 2026 with the  holding of the Banca Karera 2026 participated in by 13 paddlers  from various barangays of the town.

Organized by the Municipal Agriculture Office under the leadership of OIC Rogelyn Laban, the competition was aimed at strengthening community cohesion and promoting discipline, unity, and love for local tradition through water sports.

Five participants competed in the Individual Category, while the other eight formed four pairs and saw action in the Mixed-Double Category.

The participants demonstrated their rowing skills and paddled swiftly from Maphilindo bridge to a section of Gumapos bridge near to the Binmaley town market.

Raul Gabot from barangay Caloocan Sur emerged victorious in the Individual Category after beating Romar Ramos of Barangay Manat and Willy Melendez of Barangay Poblacion who earned the third spot.

In the Mixed-Double Category, Ronel Ramos and Janice Ferrer from Barangay Manat secured the first place followed by the pair of Michael Pacunio and Claren Castronuevo of Barangay Lomboy.

The winners received a prize of P5,000, while the second and third placers in each category were awarded P3,000 and P2,000 respectively.

Additionally, a consolation prize of P1,000 was given to the other participants.
