Bacolod cops intensify anti-drug ops in time for MassKara Festival

By Xander Ledesma

In preparation for the upcoming MassKara Festival 2024, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) executed a major anti-drug operation on October 26, 2024, resulting in the arrest of a high-value individual, identified as alias “Rico.” The operation took place in Prk. Narra Baybay, Barangay 8, and led to the confiscation of approximately 800 grams of suspected methamphetamine (shabu), valued at PhP 5.44 million.

The raid was led by Police Station 2 under the command of PMAJ Eugene Tolentino and is part of BCPO’s heightened security measures ahead of the city’s largest cultural event. “This operation is a key component of our security plan for the MassKara Festival, ensuring that public safety remains a top priority,” said PCOL Joeresty P. Coronica, City Director of BCPO. He emphasized the importance of proactive intelligence work and community cooperation in maintaining peace and order during the festival.

The MassKara Festival, celebrated annually in October, draws thousands of visitors to Bacolod City with its street dances, vibrant costumes, and cultural displays. However, the event also presents challenges for local authorities, who must manage the increased risk of illegal activities, including drug-related crimes.

Alias “Rico” will be charged under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which enforces strict penalties for the possession and distribution of illegal substances. This arrest reflects the continued efforts of Bacolod’s law enforcement to combat the spread of illegal drugs in the city.

With the MassKara Festival approaching, the BCPO is expected to ramp up its security measures to ensure the safety of locals and tourists. The successful operation against alias “Rico” highlights the effectiveness of BCPO’s efforts in safeguarding the city against illegal activities during major public events.

As the festival unfolds, Bacolod City remains focused on fostering a secure and enjoyable environment for all participants, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining peace and order during one of its most celebrated annual events.
