The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) announced that all national roads and bridges are now accessible following severe disruptions caused by Tropical Storm Kristine and Typhoon Leon. While some areas require ongoing maintenance to address residual debris and erosion, the region’s infrastructure has largely been restored.
DPWH-CAR Director Khadaffy Tanggol noted that more than PHP147 million in road and flood control damages were incurred during the storms. Notably, Kennon Road, which remains limited to one-lane access due to loose soil and falling rocks, has a history of landslides and erosion, a challenge exacerbated by recent weather events.
This region has historically struggled with the impacts of typhoons, given its mountainous terrain and soil composition. Infrastructure repairs and improvements in CAR remain crucial as the area is prone to landslides and road closures with each typhoon season. The current repair works are part of a broader effort to enhance the resilience of CAR’s transportation network amid a changing climate.
