All 117 petitioned senatorial bets declared ‘nuisance’ – Comelec

MANILA – The Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) first and second divisions have ruled in favor of all the petitions to declare nuisance 117 of the 183 senatorial aspirants in the 2025 mid-term polls.

“As of today, 117 out of 117 (petitions to declare as nuisance candidates) have been resolved by the Divisions, and all have been granted,” said Comelec Chairperson George Garcia in a media interview on Tuesday.

Garcia said six of the 117 declared nuisance candidates had appealed the two divisions’ decision by filing motions for reconsiderations (MRs) before the Comelec en banc.

“Hopefully, we can resolve them (MRs) until next week,” Garcia said.

The 183 senatorial aspirants and other national and local candidates filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) from October 1 to 8.

He said the poll body will start resolving petitions for nuisance bets involving local aspirants, hoping to rule on the cases before the end of November.

Garcia said they had not received nuisance petitions against candidates in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARRM) Parliament Elections (BPE) 2025. (PNA)
