In the wake of the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) in Catanduanes, the provincial government of Albay has committed to delivering both financial aid and psychosocial support to affected residents.
Acting Governor Glenda Ong-Bongao announced on Tuesday that PHP1 million in cash assistance will be personally handed over to Catanduanes Governor Joseph Cua this Friday. The financial aid is intended to address the immediate needs of the typhoon-hit province, as per Governor Cua’s request.
“This initiative is our way of expressing gratitude and giving back to Catanduanes and other local government units that have supported Albay during our own struggles, such as typhoons and volcanic eruptions,” Ong-Bongao said.
Beyond financial assistance, the Albay Provincial Health Office will conduct a medical mission in Bagamanoc town, deploying a team of 30 personnel. The mission will provide hygiene and breastfeeding kits, school supplies, coloring materials, and nutrition commodities. Medical interventions, including anti-tetanus shots, will be administered by five doctors and nurses from Albay.
Additionally, Albay will deploy a water purification machine and a water truck supplied by the Philippine Red Cross, along with a second water truck from the province, to address the pressing need for clean drinking water in affected areas.
The combined efforts of financial aid, medical missions, and logistical support highlight Albay’s commitment to helping its neighboring province recover and rebuild after the catastrophic storm. Super Typhoon Pepito made landfall on November 16, leaving widespread destruction in its path and displacing thousands of residents in Catanduanes.
