MANILA – Airport stakeholders led by the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) increased their security skills by attending a four-day workshop with the United States – Transportation Security Administration, and the Transport Canada.
Jan-Paul Hanley, Transport Canada’s senior aviation security policy advisor, led the Aviation Security – Quality workshop held from November 19 to 22 in Makati City.
“The workshop aimed to enhance the capability of national aviation security auditors and internal quality control auditors of airports and airlines to implement quality measures, to ensure the adequate implementation of security measures based on international and national standards,” the OTS said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
“Civil aviation is more than a means of transportation. It serves as a lifeline or a vital artery that connects diverse cultures, bolsters economic ties, and strengthens international relationships,” OTS Administrator Crizaldo Nieves was quoted as saying.
Representatives from the OTS, the New NAIA Infra Corp., the Manila International Airport Authority, and Philippine Airlines attended the workshop.
Among the activities included infiltration tests to identify vulnerabilities in the current systems. Participants were also asked to develop strategies for addressing identified vulnerabilities and weaknesses in the systems.
Hanley shared his insights on assessing the effectiveness of security measures to ensure that security practices are systematically evaluated and improved. (PNA)
