Ading Cruz defeats Lino Cayetano in congressional race; Lani Cayetano, Alit proclaimed in Taguig

TAGUIG CITY — Former mayor Lino Cayetano lost his bid for a congressional return after reelectionist Ricardo “Ading” Cruz Jr. secured another term as representative of the Taguig-Pateros 1st District. Cruz was backed by Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano.

Based on final and official results, Cruz received 117,312 votes, while Cayetano obtained 78,498.

Cayetano previously served as representative of the 2nd District and later as city mayor. His candidacy in the 2025 polls was affected by a legal challenge, including a 2024 court ruling that he and his wife were not registered voters in Barangay Ususan. A related disqualification case remains pending before the Commission on Elections.

Cayetano has stated that the residency issue and other allegations were used to discredit his campaign.

Meanwhile, Mayor Lani Cayetano and running mate Arvin Ian Alit have been officially proclaimed by the city’s board of canvassers. Cayetano won another term with 403,337 votes, while Alit secured the vice mayoralty with 330,783 votes.
