Cavite, located in the Calabarzon region of Luzon, has consistently been one of the most progressive and populous provinces in the Philippines, according to the 2020 census.
Hailed as the ‘Historical Capital of the Philippines,’ Cavite is celebrated not only as the birthplace of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898, but also for its pivotal role in several key events of the Philippine Revolution, which ended 300 years of Spanish rule.
Given its historical significance, Cavite boasts numerous heritage structures that delight enthusiasts of preservation. The province’s rich history also influences its traditional Filipino heirloom cuisines, which remain a vital part of its cultural identity.
Cavite has much more to offer beyond its historical narratives, and increased tourism promotion would significantly support the efforts of the Cavite Tourism Office.
Organized by the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation and the Cavite LGU, in collaboration with the DILG and Biyaheng South, a tourism initiative called the ‘Biyaheng South Cavite Tourism Passport Game’ was launched on May 23, 2024.
The goal of the game is to collect at least ten stamps from selected tourist destinations in the passport, with at least one visited place from each of these categories: Food, Heritage, Staycation, and Adventures. After collecting the required stamps, participants receive a Biyaheng South Kit, which includes travel-related items such as a shirt, an eco-bag, an umbrella, and more.
With plenty of options to choose from, your passport destinations depend on where you’re starting from. My friends and I were so excited that we decided to participate, and we successfully completed our passports in just two days.
Our first stop was the Museo ni Baldomero Aguinaldo in Kawit, the former home of General Baldomero Aguinaldo, a cousin of General Emilio Aguinaldo.
Feeling hungry, we headed to Malen’s Restaurant in Noveleta, where we enjoyed delicious traditional Filipino cuisine in a charming, vintage Cavite setting.
With full stomachs, we then made our way to San Roque Church in Cavite City, where the image of Our Lady of Porta Vaga is enshrined.
We ended Day 1 with a visit to the Museo ni Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, the site of the proclamation of Philippine independence from Spain by General Emilio Aguinaldo on June 12, 1898.
Day 2, on July 21, 2024, began with a visit to the Our Lady of the Pillar Cathedral in Imus, where the image of Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Imus is displayed.
Our next stop was the Our Lady of Candelaria Parish in Silang, the oldest existing church in Cavite.
Nature lovers will enjoy Shambala Silang in Silang, a nature-driven venue based on the mythological Tibetan Sanctuary known as Shambala.
Experience beautiful flower landscapes while dining at the Perlas ng Silang, situated in Silang.
Art lovers will be amazed by the glass sculptures of Ramon G. Orlina at the Museo Orlina in Tagaytay.
Capping off the entire journey and earn our last passport stamp, we enjoyed the Kawa Hot Bath package at La VeryOl’s Mountain View Garden in Tagaytay.
