The Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion (53IB) conducted a five-day Platoon Sergeant Training from November 25 to November 29, 2024, at Camp Major David Sabido in Poblacion village, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
The training was attended by 10 representatives from the battalion’s line companies, focusing on enhancing leadership, critical thinking, and decision-making skills to empower platoon sergeants in ensuring mission success and troop welfare.
Lieutenant Colonel Rolando Vargas Jr., 53IB commander, emphasized the importance of the program in preparing platoon sergeants to make sound decisions under pressure. “The program empowered our platoon sergeants with the necessary skills to make sound decisions under pressure, ensuring mission success and troop welfare,” Vargas said.
The training culminated with two major outputs: a case scenario presentation that tested the participants’ critical thinking and decision-making in operational contexts, and a panelling board session that assessed their competencies and readiness for higher responsibilities.
The 53IB remains committed to enhancing the capabilities of its personnel through continuous training and development, ensuring that its leaders are equipped to handle the challenges of their roles effectively.
