Some  5,000 children and students from Dagupan City took part in the three-day Children’s Summit, held from January 26 to 28 at CSI Stadia in Barangay Lucao, organized by the Dagupan City government.
The summit commenced with a vibrant parade along the Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension, led by Mayor Belen Fernandez, Vice Mayor Bryan Kua, city councilors, and City Schools Division Superintendent Rowena Banzon.
This year’s theme was “Kaligtasan ay Karapatan ng Baka, Ipaglaban.”
The keynote address on the opening day was delivered by Regional Trial Court Judge Sarah Fernandez of Branch 15, who highlighted the rights of children and the state’s responsibility to protect their growth, well-being, and development.
In addition to children’s rights and protection, the summit covered pressing issues such as the environment, health, nutrition, and education.
Participants were urged to join forces from all sectors of society to advocate for children’s rights now rather than later.
The summit venue featured an array of creative event booths for attendees to explore and enjoy.
During the event, Mayor Fernandez announced 52 significant infrastructure projects initiated by the Dagupan Local Government Unit, including new classrooms, gymnasiums, and improved roads to enhance safety and order for students.
She also introduced a scholarship program designed to assist children from low-income families, enabling them to pursue higher education, earn degrees, and support themselves and their families.
