The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Eastern Visayas has deployed 4,500 police personnel to secure Christmas and New Year celebrations under its “Ligtas Paskuhan” (Safe Christmas) 2024 campaign.

The Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) began its deployment on December 16, focusing on public safety and crime prevention as holiday activities ramp up across the region.

Of the total personnel, 2,000 officers will be assigned to key public areas, including places of worship, transportation hubs, commercial centers, and major thoroughfares. They will be supported by 569 augmentation units and 706 members of advocacy groups.

In designated community fireworks display areas and firecracker zones, 2,500 policemen will ensure safety alongside 687 augmentation units and 854 advocacy group members.

PRO-8 Director Brig. Gen. Jay Cumigad highlighted the importance of the deployment, noting the expected surge in travel as people return to their hometowns during the holidays. “We are dedicated to making sure everyone has a peaceful and safe holiday season. Through Ligtas Paskuhan 2024, we will intensify efforts to secure key areas, prevent criminal activities, and respond swiftly to any security threat,” Cumigad said.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to ensure the safety of all during the celebrations.

To guarantee maximum preparedness, the entire PRO-8 force will remain on heightened alert status throughout the holiday period.
