LINGAYEN, Pangasinan —This province has reported 42 fireworks-related injuries as of 8:00 a.m. on December 31, 2024, according to the Provincial Health Office’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit.
Among the victims, 18 were injured by boga, eight by five-star, five by baby rocket, three each by kwitis and whistle bomb, two by fountain, and one each by plapla, dynamite, and marshmallow.
In terms of injury location, the following body parts were affected:
- Hands: 12 injuries
- Feet: 4 injuries
- Knees/Legs: 2 injuries
- Thigh: 1 injury
- Face/Head/Neck: 7 injuries
- Eyes: 15 injuries
There was one case involving a blast burn with amputation of the third and fourth digits of the left fingers.
The data shows a 19 percent decrease in fireworks-related injuries from December 21-31, 2024, compared to the same period in the previous year.
This year, the youngest victim is a one-year-old boy, while the oldest is a 70-year-old woman.Â
Both are classified as passive victims, meaning they were not the ones who lit the firecrackers.
Of the 42 total cases, 22 were active victims, and 20 were passive.
