Sixteen individuals arrested in connection with a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) operation in Lapu-Lapu City have been transferred from the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) Detention Center in Pasay City to the Lapu-Lapu City Jail.
The transfer was made to ensure that the legal proceedings related to their arrest and detention take place within the appropriate jurisdiction.
The detainees were apprehended during a raid on a POGO facility in August 2024. They face charges related to human trafficking and illegal gambling.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has denied allegations of providing special treatment to the detainees. He clarified that the transfer was a standard procedure and that the detainees are being held in a secure facility under the supervision of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
The BJMP has implemented strict security measures to prevent any security breaches or escapes. The detainees are being monitored 24/7, and their movements are restricted.
The trial for the 16 foreign nationals is scheduled to begin in January 2025.
