The Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that 12 families who were preemptively evacuated due to Typhoon Leon (international name Kong-rey) have returned to their homes as weather conditions improved.
PDRRMO chief Broderick Train confirmed on Thursday that families from San Jose de Buenavista, San Remigio, Valderrama, and Laua-an went home as the sun reappeared and conditions became safer. Train noted that the families had been supported by their respective local government units (LGUs) and relatives during their temporary evacuation.
Due to initial forecasts of heavy rainfall, 10 LGUs suspended in-person classes, affecting pre-school to senior high levels in Pandan, Libertad, Culasi, San Jose de Buenavista, Hamtic, Sibalom, and Valderrama, and all school levels in Belison, Sebaste, and Laua-an.
The PDRRMO and municipal disaster offices remain on blue alert status to assist commuters and the public in ensuring a peaceful observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. Train added that all major roads in Antique remain passable following the recent rains.
