1 dead, another wounded in shooting incident at wake

SAN QUINTIN, Pangasinan — A tricycle driver was killed and a construction worker wounded in a shooting incident at a wake in Barangay Lagasit, this town around 1:05 a.m. on December 14.

According to a police report, the victims were identified as Dionel Galvan, 43, a tricycle driver, and Junel Guanizo, 44, a construction worker, both residents of Barangay Lagasit.

Initial police investigation revealed that while the victims were at the wake, an unidentified suspect opened fire on Galvan, shooting him several times. Guanizo, who was sitting beside him while they were playing mahjong, was also wounded.

Afterward, the gunman fled in an easterly direction toward Tayug, Pangasinan.

Galvan, who was shot in the head, died at the scene, while Guanizo was rushed by responding personnel to Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital for medical treatment.

Police are continuing their follow-up investigation and operations in an effort to identify and apprehend the suspect(s) and to establish the motive behind the attack.
