The House of Representatives opened the week swinging, with Majority Leader Sandro Marcos leading more than 180 lawmakers in a show of force behind Speaker Faustino โ€œBojieโ€ Dy III, as the chamber tries to steady itself amid public outrage over the flood control corruption scandal. Marcosโ€”backed by the Northern Luzon Alliance, Metro Manila lawmakers, Mindanao bloc, and the Party-list Coalitionโ€”framed the declaration as a unified front meant to protect institutional stability at a critical moment.

The Northern Luzon Alliance, long known as the โ€œSolid North,โ€ issued an unequivocal manifesto praising Dyโ€™s character and steady handling of the House. Deputy Speakers Kristine Singson-Meehan and Francisco Paolo Ortega V joined Marcos in the endorsement, saying Dyโ€™s leadership has kept the institution intact following the resignation of former Speaker Martin Romualdez, who was pressured to step down after allegations of budget insertions and ties to the flood control scheme.

In Mindanao, lawmakers led by Senior Deputy Speaker Ferdinand Hernandez released a separate, complementary statement, lauding Dyโ€™s โ€œcalm but firm leadershipโ€ and his ability to keep the chamber focused on its constitutional mandate even as political tensions rise. Metro Manila members followed suit, saying Dy managed to โ€œsteady the House during a tumultuous time,โ€ especially as public trust took a hit from ongoing investigations.

Amid the wave of support, Ako Bicol Rep. Alfredo Garbin announced he was stepping down from the Commission on Appointments, emphasizing it was a personal decision rooted in independenceโ€”not conflict. Garbin stressed he has committed no wrongdoing and reaffirmed his backing for measures that genuinely serve the public. As Speaker Dy consolidates support from every major House bloc, Round 1 of Congressโ€™ political reset seems to be swinging in his favor.
