Former Senator Bong Revilla stepped into the DOJ this morning with fists up, filing his counter-affidavit to answer graft allegations tying him to an allegedly non-existent flood control project in Bulacan. Revilla, who once chaired the Senate public works committee, insisted the accusations are baseless — and came armed with documents he claims will prove it.
His lawyer, Franchesca Señga, said the former lawmaker submitted evidence intended to dismantle the case point by point. “Pawang kasinungalingan,” she declared — branding the allegations as pure fabrication. Revilla, she added, is hoping prosecutors evaluate the submissions “fairly” and refuse to elevate the case to court.
The complaint stems from a supposed flood control project in Bulacan that investigators say simply does not exist. Prosecutor General Anthony Fadullon earlier confirmed that Revilla and resigned Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co are among the respondents in the probe involving SYMS Constructions — one of several firms linked to the widening infrastructure scandal.
Revilla has denied all wrongdoing, casting the controversy as déjà vu. This is the second major corruption storm of his political career; the first was the infamous 2013 pork barrel scandal, where he was accused of funneling the largest amount of PDAF funds into fake NGOs. He was eventually acquitted of multiple graft and plunder charges by 2021 — a history his camp is now invoking as a reminder that he has walked through fire before and come out clean.
