ABS-CBN’s long, bruising climb back into the media ring has taken another heavy blow. The embattled network confirmed on Thursday that TV5 has officially served a notice of termination on their five-year Content Supply Agreement—just two years into the partnership meant to rebuild ABS-CBN’s nationwide reach after its 2020 shutdown.

The fallout centers on nearly ₱1 billion in disputed payments, with TV5 reportedly demanding ₱946.16 million as ABS-CBN’s share under their 2023 agreement. Reports accused the Kapamilya network of delaying remittances, sparking rumors of financial mismanagement. ABS-CBN hit back, calling these characterizations misleading and insisting there was no willful delay—only the reality of a company still fighting to recover from a franchise loss that gutted its revenue streams. “Severe financial constraints beyond our control” is how they framed it.

ABS-CBN said it has requested additional time to settle obligations and is racing to resolve the issue within the 30-day window given by TV5. But the termination notice means co-productions, primetime slots, and content sharing between the two networks could all grind to a halt just when ABS-CBN was gaining momentum across platforms. The company called this moment a “critical juncture” in its recovery, acknowledging that while some revenue has returned, it is “still operating at a loss.”

The move also recalls a failed 2022 attempt at a deeper partnership, when ABS-CBN sought to buy shares in TV5—only to see the deal collapse due to political and regulatory pressure. Now, as yet another bridge crumbles, ABS-CBN stands once more at a crossroads, promising audiences it will not abandon its mission. “We will find ways to continue serving you,” it said. But inside the ropes, the fight just got harder.
